Sustainability Journey
Transparency and openness are key to our ability to achieve our ambitious promise of zero deforestation. We work with various organizations to clarify and direct our efforts in conserving natural tropical forests. Here is the progress of our efforts in achieving our sustainability goals.
APP Group launched its Forest Conservation Policy, which includes a commitment to protect the natural forest in its concession areas identified as having high conservation value and high carbon stock.
At the United Nations' Climate Summit in New York, APP Group is the first pulp and paper company to sign the New York Declaration on Forests.
APP Group allocated 7,000 hectares of commercial plantation on critical peatland for conservation purposes. The company introduced the Desa Makmur Peduli Api (DMPA) program, also known as the Integrated Forestry and Farming System (IFFS), as an integrated movement to prevent forest and peatland fires and to empower locals in and around concession areas.
Belantara Foundation was founded to distribute funding for forest conservation efforts in Indonesia. APP Group provides US$10 million per year for five years.
APP Group received 18 awards, four of which were from the ministries of the Republic of Indonesia:
1. Climate village award for the DMPA program from the Environment and Forestry Ministry
2. Recognition of the DMPA program by the Village, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Ministry
3. Green Industry Award from the Trade Ministry
4. Sustainable Business Practices Awards in the category of Best Energy Management from the National Development Planning Ministry in cooperation with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN), and the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development
APP Group launches its new brand as an opportunity to strengthen its transformation process into a world-class pulp and paper company.
