Jakarta, 27 October 2022 - As a manifestation of the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in the company's operational scope, Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas received appreciation in the form of the 2022 ESG Disclosure Awards with the predicate of Management BBB Investor Magazine in collaboration with Bumi Global Carbon Foundation (26/10). This award is a testament to the commitment of the business community in protecting the earth while implementing a green economy.
From a separate location, Director of APP Sinar Mas Suhendra Wiriadinata welcomed this award. "The award we received is an appreciation of working together, not only complying with regulations, but we are trying to work beyond compliance," said Suhendra.
"We believe that being a company that continues to run its business in a sustainable manner and implements ESG principles in supporting the Government in realizing Net Zero Emissions (NZE), will simultaneously be able to provide benefits not only for those directly involved in the business, but also for those who are directly involved in the business, including the surrounding community and environment," added Suhendra.
This year is the third year that the ESG Awards are held in collaboration with the independent research institution Bumi Global Karbon (BGK) and Investor Magazine, with 135 companies being assessed for the number of corporations.
On the same occasion, the Director General of Climate Change Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Laksmi Dwanthi, said this award is a real contribution from the media in increasing literacy to the community, especially in the field of environmental management and protection.
"With regard to ESG, investment is encouraged to consider several environmental criteria, including the use of new and renewable energy sources, programs and waste and waste management," Laksmi said in her remarks held online.
The founder of Bumi Global Karbon Foundation, Deni Daruri, said that the BGK assessment refers to 33 main indicators. The general standard used is the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). This name refers to a non-governmental organization that develops and disseminates ESG reporting guidelines globally. In addition to being a member of GRI, BGK is also listed as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) and the first Silver Partner of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in Indonesia.
