Driving Sustainability in Thailand's F&B Industries

Thailand, a renowned global tourism destination, is widely recognized for its diverse food and beverage sector, which spans from street food to restaurants, cafes, and hotels. Ranked as the world’s 8th most popular tourist destination, Thailand’s food & beverage industry is vibrant and steadily expanding, making significant contributions to the nation’s economic growth.

According to data platform Statista, The food service market size in Thailand is estimated at $32.85 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $47.79 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 7.78% over the forecast period (2024-2029). Alongside this industry growth, however, there has been a substantial increase in plastic waste. According to data from Nation Thailand, Thailand produces 9 million tons of plastic each year, with 36% being short-lived single-use plastic that contributes approximately 2 million tons of plastic waste annually.

In 2024, consumer awareness regarding sustainability has risen, as noted in GlobalData research, reflecting a growing demand for more eco-friendly packaging solutions. APP Group, a leading pulp and paper company, has actively responded to this trend by participating in Propak Asia held on 12 - 15 June 2024 2024 in Thailand, where it showcased sustainable packaging solutions through its environmentally conscious brands, Foopak and Enza.

“By transitioning to sustainable food packaging, the F&B industry can significantly reduce its carbon footprint while meeting growing consumer demand for eco-friendly solutions. Through our brand, Foopak, APP Group is committed to supporting the growth of Thailand's F&B industry by providing innovative, plastic-free packaging alternatives,” stated Ricca Windysari, Regional Sales Head of Southeast Asia, Industrial White, APP Group.

The global demand for sustainable packaging continues to rise, and Thailand is no exception. As a popular tourist hub, Thailand is taking steps to enhance its environmental impact, with government initiatives progressively limiting single-use plastics, particularly within the food industry. Through its sustainable offerings, APP Group aligns itself with these efforts, supporting Thailand’s push toward a greener future in the F&B sector.

As a result, APP Group remains a prominent advocate for sustainability within Thailand’s F&B industry, responding to the country’s call for eco-friendly packaging options that reduce environmental waste. The commitment of APP Group to providing sustainable packaging highlights the ongoing efforts to drive the Thai F&B industry towards a greener future, which is a crucial step forward in addressing environmental challenges.
