APP Sinar Mas Deputy Director of Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement, Librian Anggraeni said that APP is committed to doing sustainable businesses while improving the lives of people surrounding APP’s Operations area.
Speaking in a webinar held by Srikandi Hutan Lestari (SHL) on July 16, 2020 entitled 'The Role of Women in Sustainable Forest Management in the Middle of the COVID-19 Pandemic', Librian said that women's empowerment is very important to conserve natural forests. Women play a significant role increasing their family income by using natural resources with environmental friendly practice.
According to Inggi, APP mentoring programs facilitate these women products innovation to be sold in local and national markets that enable them to survive during pandemic. Their products such as red ginger and red guava dodol.
SHL Chairperson Jana Sjamsiah stated the importance of acknowledging the real contribution of women in the forestry sector. She said that the role of women in the forestry sector is still underestimated because forestry is considered a world of men who need physical strength. Though women have an important role in preserving forests ranging from policy making, certification of sustainable forest products to consumer advocacy.
