Jakarta, 16 March 2023 - PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk (IKPP) received the Award for Best Partner of KLHK in 2023 as a Forest Utilization Business Licensing (PBPH) holder who has contributed to improving the performance of Industrial Plantation Forest (HTI) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). Awarded directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya, this event was held in commemoration of the 40th Foresters Service Day with the theme "Green the Earth and Blue the Sky" at the Manggala Wanabakti Building, 16th March 2023.
This award was given in acknowledgement of PT IKPP as a representative of its supply partner companies, which are PBPH holders, and for the Company’s positive collaboration in the improvement of HTI (Hutan Tanaman Industri), as well as accommodating business interests and community expectations. The award from the Minister of Environment and Forestry was received by the Director of APP Sinar Mas, Soewarso.
"Although it is not easy, the company can accommodate business interests and community expectations by working together," said Siti Nurbaya.
On this occasion, Soewarso said, the Company will synergize so that business interests, environmental interests and social interests can run well. "Businesses will be sustainable if the community is prosperous and the environment is maintained," said Soewarso after receiving the award.
Siti Nurbaya also appreciates the efforts of foresters who have fought to save forests and the environment in Indonesia. He also highlighted the fundamental changes that have taken place in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry during the last nine years under his leadership. According to the Minister of Environment and Forestry, these changes strengthen the framework for protecting forests and the environment in Indonesia in a more sustainable and responsible manner.
"This shows that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is committed to maintaining Indonesia's environmental sustainability and encouraging active community participation in natural resource management," said Siti Nurbaya.
According to him, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has changed the paradigm into a model that is more pro-community in managing forests, especially indigenous peoples who have local wisdom in managing natural resources.
In addition, there has been a change in orientation from a business orientation that only focused on timber management to an orientation towards sustainable forest landscape management by involving various stakeholders by prioritizing sustainable forest management.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has paid greater attention to environmental protection and restoration by paying attention to ecosystems and sustainability by building nursery centers whose results are distributed to the community at large.
In relation to the circular economy and waste control, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has introduced the concept of a circular economy to reduce waste and strengthen the waste control system in Indonesia.
Regarding bureaucratic steps, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has developed a more efficient and effective work system to improve performance and service to the community. As for restorative justice, the ministry has implemented the principles of restorative justice in enforcing environmental law to repair environmental damage that has occurred and provide justice for affected communities.
