Jakarta, October 28, 2022 - 11 villages assisted by Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas received the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) Award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) at the Manggala Wanabakti Building in Jakarta (28/10). The award ceremony was held at the peak of the Climate Festival with the theme "Improve Climate Action for Indonesia to Recover Faster, Rise Stronger".
The award was presented directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya and received by representatives of relevant local governments both offline and online.
In addition, APP Sinar Mas' business unit PT Wirakarya Sakti (WKS) also received an award as a company that consistently supports ProKlim.
Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya expressed her appreciation to ProKlim fighters who have worked sincerely at the site level to take concrete actions to build a climate-resilient Indonesia with low greenhouse gas or carbon emissions.
"The award given to the ladies and gentlemen present today is an official recognition of the hard work of the climate agenda action actors at the ProKlim location. Regional Heads who have carried out their coaching functions well, as well as the business world who take an active role in supporting and assisting the implementation of ProKlim," Siti added.
In a separate location, Director of APP Sinar Mas Suhendra Wiriadinata said that the support for ProKlim is a manifestation of the company's participation in involving, fostering, and synergizing with the community to play an active role in real action to mitigate climate change, while improving the economy of the surrounding community.
"In supporting Proklim, we strive to strengthen the Desa Makmur Peduli Api (DMPA) program within our forestry unit, and the CSR program within our mill. This program is carried out as part of the company's commitment to achieve environmental and forest sustainability, as well as the welfare of the communities around our operations," Suhendra explained.
The 11 villages assisted by APP Sinar Mas that received KLHK's ProKlim Utama include 4 villages assisted by the DMPA program:
- PT Wirakarya Sakti (Mudo Hamlet and Sungai Terap Village in Jambi)
- PT Arara Abadi (Pinang Sebatang Timur Village and Muara Kelantan Village in Riau)
As well as 7 villages assisted by CSR programs from mills:
- PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk (IKPP) Perawang (Tualang Village in Riau)
- PT IKPP Tangerang (Pakulonan Village, Pakualam Village, and Jelupang Village in Tangerang Banten)
- PT Pindo Deli Pulp & Paper Mills (Kutamekar Village and Kutanegara Village in Karawang West Java)
- PT Ekamas Fortuna (Sengguruh Village in Malang, East Java)
The DMPA program itself has currently empowered communities in 405 villages spread across 5 provinces. In addition to contributing to the welfare of the community, this program is also designed to preserve the environment, one of which is preventing forest and land fires. Meanwhile, the Factory's CSR program has currently fostered 87 MSMEs engaged in various sectors, ranging from horticulture, processed food industry, to handicrafts.
