Traceability and transparency paves the way for environmental accountability

In an era where environmental sustainability has become a global priority, APP Group has applied a robust Product Tracing System to certify that our products do not come from deforested or degraded land. The system contains detailed data, including geographical coordinates of raw material sources, to ensure transparency and accountability across the supply chain and also to fulfil various national and international regulations.

For APP, compliance is not just about following regulations but also aligning with our long-standing vision of environmental stewardship.

Global consumers are gravitating towards brands that prioritise sustainability, as they become sharper and increasingly aware of environmental concerns. This growing demand for accountability presents both a challenge and an opportunity for industries to innovate and lead by example.

Introducing the APP Product Tracing System
The APP Product Tracing System is a groundbreaking solution designed to offer customers complete transparency into the origins of their products. By leveraging advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Blockchain technology, every step of the product journey is traceable—from forest to final product.

  • GIS Technology: Enables detailed mapping and monitoring of raw material sources, distinguishing between Industrial Forests and Natural Forests to ensure sustainable sourcing practices.
  • Blockchain Technology: Guarantees data security, transparency, and immutability, allowing customers and stakeholders to verify information with confidence.

Through the Delivery Note Number, customers can effortlessly trace their product's journey on APP's dedicated platform, reinforcing trust and credibility.

Key Sustainability Actions

  • 100% PEFC-Certified Fiber Sourcing: All raw materials are sourced from sustainably managed forests certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
  • Supplier Compliance: APP actively works with suppliers, ensuring they meet stringent sustainability criteria by sourcing exclusively from industrial forests.
  • Forest Conservation Policy: Since February 1, 2013, APP has adhered to its Forest Conservation Policy (FCP), ensuring no development occurs on forested lands as identified through independent High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) assessments.

The Role of Technology in Product Tracing
The integration of GIS mapping and Blockchain technology sets a new industry standard for transparency and environmental responsibility. Key technological highlights include raw material data tracking, geospatial monitoring, and end-to-end traceability. This system offers assurance that all of our products – whether it’s a notebook, copy paper, tissues, or even the paper cup holding your coffee - meet the highest sustainability standards.

The scalability of this system allows it to be adapted across other industries, including agriculture, providing a flexible and future-ready solution for responsible sourcing.

A Commitment to the Future
By prioritizing transparency, innovation, and collaboration,  the goal is not only meeting regulatory requirements but to actively contributing to global efforts to combat deforestation and protect ecosystems.

In a world where sustainability is no longer optional, APP’s Product Tracing System stands as a testament to our commitment to accountability, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
