ISF 2024 Discussion Panel: APP Group's CSO Emphasizes the Importance of Decarbonization Initiatives in Indonesia's Industrial Sector

Jakarta, September 6, 2024 – The Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, held at the Jakarta Convention Center on September 5-6, brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts to discuss various strategies for addressing climate change challenges. One of the standout panel sessions was "Decarbonising Indonesian Industry," part of the forum's series of events, focusing on decarbonization efforts in Indonesia's industrial sector.

In this session, Elim Sritaba, Chief Sustainability Officer of APP Group, along with other panelists such as Anita Neville (Golden Agri Resources), Adrian Suharto (Robertsbridge Group), and Muhammad Reza Abdulmajid (Sinarmas Land), shared insights and experiences on the strategies needed to reduce carbon emissions in the industrial sector. Elim emphasized that APP Group's commitment to decarbonization began in 2013 with the implementation of the Sustainability Roadmap Vision (SRV) 2030, designed to meet the company's long-term targets.

Elim noted that achieving this goal requires cooperation among all parties—suppliers, producers, and buyers—to collectively reduce global emissions. "This goal cannot be achieved alone. Everyone must come together and collaborate if we want to reach our Net Zero ambition," said Elim.

Elim Sritaba explained that APP Group's initiatives focus on three main pillars: more environmentally friendly production, forest protection, and local community empowerment. APP has implemented various measures to achieve these targets, including reducing energy intensity in factories through investments in clean technology, reusing by-products, and implementing stricter preventive maintenance.

APP Group is also committed to maintaining transparency in every step towards sustainability. "We report all our achievements and developments through a Sustainability Report verified by an independent third party to ensure that our claims are accountable," explained Elim.

During the discussion, Elim highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy in Indonesia. "We believe that the decarbonization challenge requires a collective approach, involving all stakeholders from various sectors. Thus, we can work together to create a more sustainable future for Indonesia," he said.

Elim also discussed the role of technology, supportive policies, and green investments in accelerating progress toward sustainability. "Through close collaboration and the utilization of new technologies, we can tackle these challenges more effectively," he concluded.
