The COVID-19 pandemic urges schools in Indonesia and around the world to implement distance learning. As a result writing activities in notebooks decrease. In fact, there are many benefits from conventional learning as discussed in the webinar "The Importance of Maintaining Children's Writing Interest", Thursday (3/12).
Child psychologist, Marcelina Melisa explains that writing can improve children's way of thinking. "There are three main benefits of writing, namely improving fine motor skills, training creativity, and improving analysis and memory of a child," While Lanny Anggraini, an analyst from the Primary School Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Culture added that a combination of online and direct learning activities is very important. Lanny admits that she fully supports fun learning activities, one of which is handwriting in books.
There are many things to encourage children to love writing, for example, creating activities or games using writing books. The material can be taken from distance learning summary or others. Writing a diary could be another choice which also builds closeness between parents or teachers and children.
This webinar is part of the 'Let's Write Together with SiDU' program which has been running since 2017. "This program has involved 60 thousand students from 300 elementary schools in Jabodetabek. SiDU wants to be a partner for parents, teachers, and the government to improve Indonesia's future generations competence, "said Sinar Mas Director Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Suhendra Wiriadinata.
A number of studies in 2017 revealed writing in a notebook can improve children's memory and motor sensors. So parents, has writing become a daily activity for your little ones?
