As we enter the dry season, APP Sinar Mas gear up to face forest and land fires. APP also working closely with South Sumatra Province to prevent forest and land fires.
Joining hands with its supplier partners PT Sebangun Bumi Andalas (SBA), PT Bumi Andalas Permai (BAP) and PT Bumi Mekar Hijau (BMH), APP Sinar Mas added a new fire monitoring tower to increase the prevention effort.
Head of APP Sinar Mas Fire Operations Management from Palembang Region Mares Prabadi said that the company has prepare the prevention effort as usual such as routine patrols, fire monitoring towers optimization, placing thermal cameras and operating drones for early fire detection. But since COVID-19 they added routine health checks and strict health protocols for the field teams.
"The entire crew uses complete personal protective equipment (PPE) while working. We place the firefighter personnel over the strategic spots based on the heat map and we add several posts to monitor the fire as well," he stated. Mares also added that along with monitoring fire efforts, they also educate people nearby concession to plant without slash and burn.
This dry season APP Sinar Mas has prepared firefighter personnel and rapid reaction teams (TRC), along with equipment needed such as pump engine, multifunctional extinguisher nozzle and firefighter vehicle.
