APP's commitment to protecting Indonesia's mangrove

Mangroves play an important role in global  climate change mitigation. Mangrove forests can also stabilize the ecosystems and sustain the local economy. Sadly,  The Indonesian Environment and Forestry Ministry recorded that  1.8 millions hectares of the total of 3.5 millions hectares of mangrove forests in Indonesia are damaged due to the change of forest conversion area.

As one fulfillment of the APP’s 2030  Sustainability Roadmap Vision donated USD 300,000 for the Mangrove Ecosystem Restoration Alliance (MERA).  MERA is a program initiated by the Nusantara Nature Conservation Foundation (YKAN).

"As a company with its core business engaged in forestry, we understand the importance of protecting  nature for the sustainability of its resources. We hope that APP Sinar Mas' collaboration with related institutions will be even stronger in the future so it can contribute more s to climate change mitigation by maintaining carbon stocks in the mangrove ecosystem," she further explained.

APP Sinar Mas' effort to protect mangrove forest has been a long journey. . Since 2010, one of APP’s manufacturer,  Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper (IKPP) Serang has collaborated with the District Government and local NGOs to plant 110,000 mangrove trees in several areas at Serang, Banten.   The commitment continues as these past two years, IKPP Tangerang has also planted 65,000 mangrove seeds in the Tanjung Pasir Teluknaga.
