APP Group is set to participate in the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, scheduled for 5th and 6th September 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC). Organised by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment (CMMAI) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), the forum will feature both plenary and thematic sessions aimed at advancing sustainability and decarbonization efforts across the region.
Building on its previous participation, APP will once again play a key role at the forum. In 2023, APP revealed that they are actively exploring various sustainable energy sources to reduce its dependency on fossil fuel in a panel discussing the potential of harnessing agricultural waste for sustainable power.
For this year, APP will engage in two significant sessions on 6 September 2024. The first, titled "Decarbonising Indonesian Industry," will feature Elim Sritaba, Chief Sustainability Officer at APP, as well as Adrian Suharto, Asia Pacific Director at Robertsbridge Group, among other organisations. This discussion will explore the practical strategies and innovative solutions being employed by leading Indonesian companies to transition to low-carbon energy, highlighting the crucial role of public-private collaboration in achieving Indonesia’s net-zero goals. By aligning with Indonesia’s national environmental objectives and working with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, APP reaffirms its position in advancing sustainable development and fostering a resilient, low-carbon future.
The second panel, "Enabling the Low Carbon Transition: The Role of Policy, Finance, and Technology," will address the policy frameworks, financial mechanisms, and technological innovations necessary to support industry-wide decarbonization. This discussion, with panellists composed of industry experts, will focus on the essential elements required to achieve the global goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, emphasising the need for a fundamental transformation of energy systems, industrial processes, and consumer behaviours.
Elim remarked, “The Indonesia International Sustainability Forum provides a vital platform for advancing discussions on strategies and collaborative approaches necessary for achieving our decarbonization targets. With climate change driven by human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 necessitates significant changes across energy systems, industrial processes, and consumer behaviours. By collaborating and utilizing innovative solutions, we can make substantial progress towards a sustainable, low-carbon future.”
ISF 2024 aims to facilitate government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signings, establish actionable sustainability coalitions, and produce a report to advance the green economy. The event will host over 100 businesses and engage more than 10 schools and universities through exhibitions, workshops, and seminars.
