Pekanbaru, May 28, 2024 - APP Group through PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk donated two units of four-wheeled operational vehicles to the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA). The donation is part of APP Group's commitment to support the Government in strengthening the function of conservation area management and Biodiversity Preservation in Riau Province.
This is part of the cooperation program between BBKSDA Riau and APP Group in order to strengthen the function of conservation areas in Riau Province, including Bukit Rimbang Bukit Baling Wildlife Reserve, Bukit Batu Wildlife Reserve, Giam Siak Kecil Wildlife Reserve, Kerumutan Wildlife Reserve, and Sebanga Elephant Training Center.
Genman Suhefti Hasibuan, Head of BBKSDA Riau, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the ongoing support from APP Group. "We hope this cooperation will continue. These two four-wheeled vehicles are very helpful as supporting facilities in carrying out the main tasks and functions of the Riau KSDA Center, in order to achieve the objectives of conservation area management in our work area," he said.
This operational vehicle is the second support from APP Group to BBKSDA Riau. Previously, on October 6, 2023, BBKSDA Riau had also received two units of four-wheeled vehicles from APP Group. This initiative is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2022 between APP Group and the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), covering cooperation to strengthen the function of conservation areas in five Technical Implementation Units (UPT), namely: BBKSDA Riau, BKSDA Jambi, BKSDA South Sumatra, BKSDA East Kalimantan, and Berbak & Sembilang National Park.
Meanwhile, APP Group's Head of Landscape Conservation & Environment, Jasmine Doloksaribu, said that this support is a form of responsibility and concern for APP Group and its business units and supply partners in Riau Province. "APP Group, together with its business units and paper raw material supply partners in Riau Province, supports various programs of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through BBKSDA Riau as one of the UPTs within the scope of KSDAE in Riau Province," she explained.
Not only supporting operational vehicles, APP also provides support through institutional strengthening, increasing human resource capacity, providing protection and security facilities and infrastructure, as well as building a building for the protection and security of areas and plants and wildlife.
APP Group Chief of Sustainability Officer Elim Sritaba added that the collaborative program is in line with APP's Sustainability Roadmap Vision (SRV) 2030, as well as the company's commitment to continue to play an active role in area protection and security programs and biodiversity conservation. "APP Group is committed to protecting biodiversity in the operational sites of our business units and supply partners through the principle of coexistence and strives to become a conservation-friendly concession by providing wildlife corridors and carrying out mitigation, protection and capacity building efforts," Elim Sritaba said.
"Hopefully the vehicles handed over today can be utilized for the purpose of preserving and strengthening conservation areas and biodiversity, so that this support from APP Group can have a positive impact on conservation efforts in Riau Province," Elim Sritaba said.
