Participants' Orientation for Kampus Merdeka x APP Sinar Mas (Batch 3)

Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas supports the government in developing education in Indonesia by participating in the Merdeka Belajar - Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). This program provides opportunities for students to learn and develop themselves through activities outside of class lectures by going for a direct working experience. This is the third batch of the MBKM program and the first batch for APP Sinar Mas to join.

Held simultaneously throughout Indonesia, APP Sinar Mas welcomed the arrival of 44 students from various campuses in Indonesia and commenced the orientation period at PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk - Tangerang Mill on Thursday, August 18, 2022. The orientation was held for 2 days to introduce and prepare each participant to working at APP Sinar Mas.

Day One: Getting to Know Sinar Mas APP and its products

The first day of orientation was opened by the Head of Strategic HR Marcus Budimulia, where participants were reminded of the importance of networking in career building. Following the topic, participants were introduced to career opportunities with APP Sinar Mas.

Through the MBKM program, students have the same opportunity to join APP Sinar Mas' various career programs, such as Graduate Trainee, Management Trainee, as well as available regular positions. As an essential foundation, the participants were also provided with information about the social media platform for the professional world, namely LinkedIn.

On the first day of this orientation, participants were introduced to three APP Sinar Mas main products, ranging from paper, packaging, to tissue. Getting to know the process flow in the pulp and paper industry, this orientation session also explained the production process at APP Sinar Mas, from seedling to the final stage. The first day of orientation was filled with enthusiasm with small games and a team building session led by APP Academy team.

Day Two: Exploring Various Divisions in APP Sinar Mas

After being introduced to the company and its products, participants were brought to understand the workflow and synergy between divisions within APP Sinar Mas. The material on the second day began with APP Culture, which identified the 5 corporate cultures as the basis for working at APP Sinar Mas. Participants also received information from the Sustainability and Stakeholder Engagement (SSE) Division, which reminded the importance of paying attention to the environment and empowering communities for the company's sustainability. Complementing the explanation on sustainability issues, the Corporate Affairs and Communications (CAC) Division also shared the role of branding for a company and the efforts needed by companies to enter the digital world.

The enthusiasm of the participants remained high throughout the second day with small games and a leadership session from APP Academy team. On this second day, participants had the opportunity to meet with mentors from each division to prepare for work.

Becoming a Part of APP Sinar Mas

The two-day orientation for interns at APP Sinar Mas provided useful materials and information in carrying out work and building connections within the company. The program which will run for four months provides an opportunity for students to work and explore the sustainable pulp and paper industry.
