Jakarta, October 24, 2023 - 17 villages supported by APP Group have received the Program Kampung Iklim (ProKlim) awards under the Lestari and Utama categories from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). The award ceremony took place at the Climate Festival 2023 with the theme "Moving Together to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions" at the Manggala Wanabakti Building in Jakarta. The awards were presented directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK), Siti Nurbaya, accompanied by KLHK Secretary-General Bambang Hendroyono, and the Director-General of Climate Change Control, Laksmi Dhewanthi, and were received by representatives of the relevant local governments.
Out of the 17 villages supported by APP Group that received the ProKlim Awards, Dataran Kempas Village, supported by PT Wirakarya Sakti (WKS), received the Lestari ProKlim award trophy. Meanwhile, Paku Jaya Village, supported by PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk (IKPP) - Tangerang Mill, and Karya Maju Village, supported by PT WKS, received the Utama ProKlim award trophy.
In her speech, Minister Siti Nurbaya stated that synergy and collaboration between implementers and supporters must be strengthened continuously. "Although these awards may not fully reflect the substantial contributions made, I hope they serve as a catalyst to continue the fight for Indonesia's interests, especially in the face of increasingly challenging climate change," said Siti.
In this ProKlim award, the Ministry of LHK also innovated with a new ProKlim concept. "We have expanded the scope from just climate village programs to community programs for climate, covering various regions and community groups. This reflects our commitment to involve all parties in climate change mitigation efforts in Indonesia," explained Siti.
Also, present at the event, Sera Noviany, Head of ESG & Compliance at APP Group, said that support for ProKlim is a manifestation of the company's role in empowering, nurturing, and synergizing with the community to actively participate in tangible climate change mitigation actions, while also enhancing the local economy.
"In supporting ProKlim, we strive to strengthen the Village Prosperity Fire Care Program (DMPA) within our forest management units and CSR programs at our mills. These programs are run as part of the company's commitment to achieving forest and environmental sustainability and supporting the well-being and independence of the communities around our operations," said Sera.
The DMPA program has currently empowered communities in 421 villages across 5 provinces, benefiting more than 80,000 people. In addition to improving the livelihoods of the community, the program is also designed to preserve the environment, including preventing forest and land fires.
