How to Stay Creative at Home (With Free Templates!)

Sometimes when it’s the most challenging time to be creative, it’s also the most necessary.

Now, most of us have to stay at home to help slow down the rate of COVID-19 infection. And some have to take care of their families besides doing their business-as-usuals, leaving no time for even thinking about creativity.

The fact of the matter is that you should spare some time for it, especially when you’re stuck at home due to this outbreak. Creative processes are a huge mood booster and stress reliever that could help you get through this hard time. Even more, it can improve your overall health

But how? You might ask. Well, here are some ways to keep your productivity during isolation and something you can download for free at the end of the article to get you started.

Publish your work

With so many things to do at home, it can be hard for you even to remember that last unfinished painting, or song, or poem that you already have in your drawer for too long. It is especially true when you feel like you’re doing your creative work only for yourself. So try to set a goal to publish your artworks on your social media accounts or blogs. Or create a new one, so you feel more urge to fill it.

When you feel like your work is going to be seen by a lot of people, you will have more motivation to do it. And, even better, you’re going to do your best so you won’t disappoint your audiences (or friends and families on your social media).

Pro tip: if you feel like that’s not enough motivation, simply announce that you’re going to publish something on a specific date even when you don’t have anything yet. That way, you will get some extra push to come up with something just to keep your words (wink).

Create an inspiring environment

Being stuck in one place every day is already hard for doing your daily routines, let alone a creative process. It’s hard to get inspiration when you do your creative process at the same place where you do your day job. So set up space where you can think, imagine, and create. Maybe get a tidy desk near a window solely for you to draw or write. Or use a spare room as a studio where you can do anything without being interrupted.

Finish your work for the day, take care of your family, and once you complete your daily tasks, have a little “party” for yourself. Relax and unwind for a bit before you head to your new creative space. Once you’re there, nothing can stop you from creating your next masterpiece!

Easy on yourself

The last thing we would like you to remember is to be easy on yourself. Remember the benefits that we talked about before? Yes, it’s about relieving stress and boosting your moods during the quarantine period. What’s the point of doing creativity if it ended up giving you more pressure?

So just create something feasible amidst this testing time and express yourself in the form of art. Don’t set the bar too high and just let the creative juice flow. Take a break every once in a while. Watch TV, and maybe you get some inspiration there. Don’t forget to have some fun!

Now, if you don’t have any experience in creative works, don’t worry. As we promised at the beginning of this article, we have something to get you started.

Here’s a coloring template that you can download and print for free. Coloring doesn’t take too much effort, and it’s supposed to be relaxing! It’s an excellent way to start and stay on your creative journey throughout the #StayAtHome period.

Stay creative, stay safe, and stay healthy. We wish you all the best, and we know you can get through this hard time.
