Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas is maintaining the top ranking for Environmental Performance from CDP
A-grading in Forest category from independent global disclosure system attests to the company’s sustainability commitment and progress
Jakarta, 09 December 2021 – Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas today announced it has received an A- grading from CDP for the Forest category, surpassing that of the industry for its overall environmental performance. The company also received a B grade for Climate Change and for Water Security. This is the third time that APP has received top grading in CDP’s forest category, following similar achievements in 2017 and 2018.
CDP is a UK-based not-for-profit organization that operates a global disclosure data analysis system for investors, companies, cities, states, regions and governments to measure and manage their environmental impacts, risks and opportunities on climate change, water security and deforestation. They are widely regarded as the gold standard of environmental reporting and work with corporate and public entities across 90 countries annually.
CDP’s guidelines and methodology are based on multiple globally recognized systems which include the Science Based Targets Initiative, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), World Resources Institute (WRI), World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Commenting on APP’s achievement, Elim Sritaba, APP’s Chief Sustainability Officer said, “APP is committed to continuously improving our global environmental footprint, and our excellent performance in receiving top gradings in several categories by CDP is a testament to our efforts and the resources we have invested to ensure APP is among the most sustainable companies in our industry. The CDP rankings allow us to benchmark our performance year-on-year and side-by-side with industry peers, ensuring our entire operations addresses and brings positive impacts for climate, water and forests. The CDP gradings also serve to encourage us and our partners, that through steadfast commitment, improvements across our supply chain, and partnerships with stakeholders, we believe that APP has made a huge effort in sustainability and contributing to the national & global goals.”
The recent COP26 has shone the spotlight on the role of forests in mitigating carbon release and the impact of climate change. Sustainable forest management, a key tenet of APP’s Forest Conservation Policy, plays a pivotal role in maintaining the global climate and environmental ecosystem. By working together to safeguarding our forests, we can help to protect the world’s biodiversity and get much closer and faster to achieving the net-zero goal.
