Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) clinches three major accolades at the inaugural ESGBusiness Awards 2023

Jakarta, 10 November 2023 - Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) announced today that it secured accolades in three categories at the inaugural ESGBusiness Awards, held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre on Monday 6 November, 2023 in Singapore.

The awards honour businesses that demonstrate a strong and outstanding commitment and achievement in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. 

APP and PT OKI Pulp & Paper Mills (PT OKI), showcased their ESG best practices and won the following awards:-


  • Economic Empowerment Award - Indonesia (Best Practice Title: Empowering Communities in Sustainable Landscape Management)
  • Sustainable Product Design Award - Indonesia (Best Practice Title: Sustainable Packaging Solution from APP)

PT OKI Pulp & Paper Mills (PT OKI): 

  • Renewable Energy Adoption Award - Indonesia (Best Practice Title: Renewable Energy Adoption in PT OKI Pulp & Paper Mills (Asia Pulp & Paper) by using Biomass))

In a world where the production and consumption of finite natural resources are on the rise, APP has taken a leading role in advancing the practice of a circular economy with Foopak Bio Natura’s versatility pioneering the shift from conventional plastic lining, to eco-friendly food packaging.

On the other hand, APP’s sustainable business practices such as its Forest Conservation Policy and Desa Makmur Peduli Api (DMPA) programme demonstrate their unwavering dedication to forest preservation and community well-being.

PT. OKI Pulp & Paper Mills (PT OKI) has also been working towards an environmentally conscious approach to energy production, leveraging biomass as a green energy source. Through the utilisation of various biomass sources like wood bark, heavy black liquor, and bark gas, PT OKI underscores its dedication to sustainability and resource optimization. Its aspiration to potentially attain zero emissions in the future by shifting entirely to renewable energy aligns with global sustainability objectives.

The award winners were celebrated in Singapore, with a panel of judges, including experts from Deloitte, KPMG, and PwC. Judging criteria emphasised tangible actions, differentiation from peers in creating ESG impact, addressing greenwashing risks, sustainability in supply chains, and tackling social aspects of business as critical ESG challenges.
